Taxes on stock trade!!! please help?

so i was wondering about the taxation on stock trades. so i've been told that you fill out the 1099 and that if you are in the 15% or less income bracket you pay 5 percent of your net profit/loss. what if i have no income and i invested just my saved up money? [i'm 18 if that counts]
