Ponds?? are they really worth it?

I was going to put a pond in my backyard but have now wondered if it will to hard to keep up the maitnence? eg. scooping out leaves, stopping slime and stop it from going green. I know that ponds look great but im just wondering how much work its going to be? If anyone has advice or past experience please let me know! thanks
